Day 4 in Italy!
Training sessions and games here at the Comune Di Cicagna Centro Sportivo facility has been the best part of the tour for the players so far. They feel at home and are enjoying the experience of traveling as a team all week! Today started off with a training session in the morning which was a good idea with the heat we have had here this week. It was very hot and I could see it affecting some of the players but they all gave everything they had.
Paolo and I discussed the outline of the training session yesterday when we were in Santa Margherita. We started with a good warmup with different movements and dynamic stretches. When the players felt good, we moved onto a 3v3 championship tournament of Serie A. The teams were Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Roma, Fiorentina. Two games would take place while the 5th team would go through a technical exercise with Paolo. Inter Milan were the champions with an undefeated record! Congratulations to Kiran Treacy-Hind, Johnny Morocho and Adrian Pjetri. We will see if the true Inter team will have as much success as them this coming Sunday when we go see Inter play against Fiorentina at San Siro! The next phase of the training was a 5v5 plus one neutral game with support on the outsides. The teams were required to find support on both outsides before you could finish on goal. It was a good game for about 20 minutes but you could see the tired legs and fatigue from the heat. We eventually finished with an 8v8 game and departed the training field for showers!
The day continued with lunch and a trip to Levanto at Cinque Terre. Levanto is the beginning of the region and considered the more popular spot of the region for Italians to go to. They have a larger beach area than we’ve been to on the trip so far and with a 15 minute walk along the beach the path brings you to a great spot for some photos (see below). Levanto had the typical tourist shops, small roads and gelato on every corner! We spent about 3 hours and then started to head back for dinner and a brief meeting before we called it a day.
After meeting with the players tonight, I’m happy with the trip because of their response to my question of “what is your favorite part of the tour?” Some were different answers; some were the same. However, everyone started out with soccer being the focus and for some, the pasta!!
We’re looking forward to a great game tomorrow vs. Sestri Levante and visiting Genoa!
