The Beginning
Joe Palumbo Soccer Skills Camp began in the early 80’s at Club Fit in Jefferson Valley. The camps started at one location at Club Fit and eventually expanded into neighboring towns at local schools. These camps were becoming more and more popular by word of mouth because of the positive experience and the amount of fun the kids were having learning and playing soccer. These camps continued for about 20 years in various locations throughout Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties. The dream for my father was to create one central location specific to soccer to grow the love and passion for the game and create an environment that is safe for kids and welcoming to families. This dream was complete when he purchased the land in Putnam Valley where the JPSA Day Camps now take place teaching the game through our motto!
Skill, Sportsmanship, Self Discipline
I want to share with you all some of these old photos! There are many more that I am leaving out but this collage is a great display of the people who attended and worked at the JPSA Summer Camps! It will be too long to go through every kid or adult but what I can tell you is that in this picture you have: Doctors, Professional soccer players, Educators, Professional tennis player, Policemen, Soldiers of the USA, CEOs, and small business owners. My point? The lessons learned through our pillars of skill, sportsmanship, and self discipline can set you up for success in life.
Why not play soccer all day long?
Many kids will look back on the camps that they attended as a kid and say how much fun they had.
Having been able to go through every week of Joe Palumbo Soccer Academy camp for almost all of my childhood, the thing I take away most was the skills I acquired, the lessons I learned and the friendships I made. This goes for my soccer life in general with all of the people I have encountered through soccer but there is a special feeling I have for my summers growing up. Whether it was planning to wear the same color jersey with one of my best friends (Who happened to be good as well) so we would be placed on the same team, or a pool party on Friday night at another campers’ house after a long week of camp competing with and against all types of players. These same events are now reoccurring with the children and families who come to JPSA Summer camp. I am happy I get to witness it now, knowing that these experiences will bring great joy to the kids and their families.
There is so much that goes into running a camp that provides the right energy, passion, excitement and knowledge needed for the kids to learn and enjoy the week. Our staff comes from all over the world with appropriate soccer licenses for soccer development, but most importantly licensed by Joe Palumbo to instruct at the camp! JPSA Summer Camp is not for the person who wants to come to sit down and play video games in the air conditioning, or for the kid who wants to run all over the place without any interest in learning. Summer soccer camp at JPSA is for the soccer child who wants to improve his/her skills as a player, respect his/her peers and display good sportsmanship as an athlete, and develop a work ethic and understanding of self discipline. These three principles will be reminded throughout the days of every week of camp.
