After a short break, the Saturday Academy League was back in full swing with some stand out performances from both individuals and teams.
Here are the results and standings after the fourth week of competitive fixtures.
EPL (2 – 3 pm)
Man City 3 – 6 Chelsea
Chelsea came from behind in this game to win a thrilling encounter between two evenly matched teams. Man City looked to attack Chelsea on the counter attack utilising their speed and took a commanding 3 – 1 lead into half time. Chelsea’s impressive possession based style however took advantage of a tiring opposition to come away eventual winners.
Tottenham 3 – 3 Liverpool
Both teams exhibited impressive attacking talent in a game which lead to Joe Palumbo’s megaphone nearly running out of power due to the amount of chances that were created. The game eventually finished 3 – 3, both teams deserving their hard-earnt point.
Bundesliga (3 – 4 pm)
Dortmund / Wolfsberg 4 – 4 Bayern / RB Liepzig
After players impressed in practice an executive decision was taken to combine the Bundesliga teams for 7 v 7 game on the big field at JPSA stadium. Both teams caught the eye as they looked to unlock the opposition defence with passing combinations and individual skill. The game was to finish 4 – 4, evidence of how evenly matched the sides were.
La Liga (4 – 5 pm)
Real Madrid 4 – 6 Valencia
Although Real Madrid were to take a very early lead in this game Valencia responded superbly and scored some mightily impressive goals to the delight of the crowd. Real Madrid did rally in the second half but two late goals from Valencia put the game to bed.
Sevilla 8 – 4 Barca
A game which showcased two teams in impressive attacking form was to produce a 12-goal thriller. Sevilla proved to be the most clinical in front of goal and as a result took away all three points.
Serie A (5 – 6 pm)
Roma 4 – 0 Juventus
Roma go from strength to strength in this year’s competition beating a resilient Juventus side. Juventus defended bravely and looked to capitalise on any opposition error, however after wave after wave of attack the pressure eventually became too much and Roma got their reward.
Napoli 4 – 1 AC Milan
Napoli showed why they are currently at the top of Serie A with a confident display against AC Milan. Milan frustrated their opponents and scored a wonderful goal of their own but under a relentless sun they soon tired. Napoli were take full advantage and ran away eventual 4 – 1 winners.
