Recognizing the commitment, hard work and efforts of others can have a great and positive impact on a person as long as it is merited.
As we do with most programs throughout the year, we have been acknowledging our players of the week at our Spring break camp and have taken advantage of the opportunity to announce and present the achievement amongst their peers.
Once the news is shared with the player, they are asked to come to the front of the room to let us all know how they feel about receiving this selection and share some advice to the others on what they can do to be in this position.
Some and most of the responses were short, uncomfortable and uncertain to truly how they felt or what they did; yet there were some words that really caught our attention.
One of our campers mentioned that this consideration made them feel happy, mostly because it was unexpected. The simplest thing that goes beyond someone’s expectations will almost always create a proud and grateful sensation.
The challenge for all of us is to continue to work hard and honest without the need of recognition but with the desire to improve at something. The recognition will find its way towards the correct actions.
To all of our students, the player of the week is just another way for us to let you know that we noticed, we are here for you and to keep going!
Yours in soccer,
James Palumbo
